Eustoma! I have tracked down the name of the gorgeous violet flowers in Longwood Gardens and they are called Eustoma. What a lovely Wordless Wednesday treat!
The word Eustoma is comprised of two Greek words: eu meaning beautiful or good, and stoma meaning mouth.
Commonly known by it’s old name, Lisianthus, or even Texas Bluebells, Eustoma can be single-flowered or double-flowered, blooming in shades of pink, purple, white and blue. Sometimes, bicolored ones may be found with yellow or carmine-red in them. They grow between one and three feet in height, which is how I was able to take great pics of them without sitting on the ground. 😉
They are native to warmer, dryer climates, particularly grasslands and pine forests, but do well where they are distributed in the Southern United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean. As Pennsylvania is a far cry from the Caribbean, I was surprised to find this out! I was also pleased, because these flowers were so lovely and I’m glad I was able to see them.

I love the pretty shade of purple. I’ve heard of Texas Bluebells but never knew that they come in different colors other than blue.
