2014 Philadelphia Flower Show Recap!
We spent the
entire day
yesterday {read: 6+ hours} at the
(and yes, I
*did*
in fact paint my nails to look like little butterfly wings for the occasion!). It was a wonderful date, as usual, and we took tons and tons of photos. Here’s just a glimpse of what we saw!
Every year since we started dating, the Husband and I have an annual Flower Show date, where we spend a million hours wandering around the showroom floor, buy plants that we inevitably kill only a couple months later, and then go get dinner. It’s a tradition that I’ve come to really look forward to. This year was no exception, with a fun theme of
ARTiculture
. Designers, florists, gardeners and even students created beautiful works of art based on the masters, but recreated them with flowers. So wonderful. I, the art major, was especially excited for this. We even went in the Make & Take Room where I crafted a flower fascinator to wear for the duration of the day, and the Butterfly Experience Room where pretty bugs flew on my head and neck and gave me goosebumps. We collectively took over 300 photos, but I won’t bore you with all of them. Here are a dozen (….or
two
six….) of my favorite shots!

Grape hyacinth.. so small and adorable!

First thing you see when you walk in the showroom doors!

Part of an installation, these are molecules made of flowers and plant life!

These had hanging frames and footprint stickers on the floor indicating where you should stand to ‘frame’ the art… such a fun idea!

LOVED the paint brushes “painting” the flowers

A very Mondrian room

Dali inspired

‘Plant’ made of what appears to be saws?!

Gear art, Husband’s favorite kind!

Different lighting went on and off throughout the displays, changing the look of them constantly.

The abstract installations were probably my favorite. So much inspiration in them!

So weird and amazing. Love!

Tablescape made of flowers and utensils!

Husband just HAD to get in my first shot and mess me up!

Am a little obsessed with these mustard colored orchids.. never saw anything like them!

One more shot!
And now for a whole gallery of amazing dioramas!!

Amongst these dioramas… I spy Robert Indiana’s famous LOVE statue, a spot on depiction of The Lady of Shalott and Frida in her home painting!

That was my whole ARTiculture experience! Minus all the vendors that I spent the next hour and a half walking around! Now for just a few butterfly shots, and a couple of me and the mister!

This little girl was like a butterfly magnet. They just kept hanging out with her!

HI MOM! I *KNOW* you were the one who landed on my neck today.. right on my tattoo of your initials, of course!

Over 1000 butterflies in the exhibit!

Me and Husband (and my fascinator) at the 2014 Philly Flower Show!

Us again!
“Oh, but Katie! What about your butterfly-wing nail art design!?” Oh, that’s right, thanks for reminding me. Here’s a little sneak preview, as there will certainly be a post about them next week!

Hope you liked my Philly Flower Show recap and all the photos I took! Did you make it there this year?
